Description
What is Reductil Tablet?
Reductil tablet is a medicine used to help people who are obese, that is, with a body mass index (BMI) ≥ 30, to lose weight. Before a doctor can prescribe Reductil, you must have previously tried to lose weight by changing your diet and increasing the amount of physical activity you do.
Overweight people (BMI > 27) may also be prescribed Reductil if they are at high risk of becoming obese. Factors that increase an overweight person’s risk of obesity include:
- Diabetes;
- hyperlipidemia;
- Hypertension.
Reductil Tablet Active Ingredient | Sibutramine
Reductil contains the active ingredient sibutramine, which works by increasing the level of two chemicals found in the brain (serotonin and norepinephrine) that regulate appetite. These chemicals send signals that tell a person that they are hungry and need to eat, or that they are getting full and need to stop eating. Sibutramine causes an increase in chemicals that cause feelings of fullness or satiety (i.e., suppresses appetite) and therefore may help reduce the amount a person eats.
Reductil may also increase an individual’s resting metabolic rate or the amount of energy consumed when at rest. During weight loss, it is common for the resting metabolic rate (RMR) to decrease as the amount of food consumed decreases. This means that the rate at which the body burns food slows down, which has negative effects on weight loss. Taking Reductil can prevent this from happening.
Reductil Tablet 15mg Dosage
A doctor will usually prescribe one 15mg Reductil tablet per day, which can be taken with or without food. The doctor will also prescribe a calorie and fat controlled diet and exercise. Reductil is not effective in reducing weight without also reducing calorie intake and increasing physical activity.
